British values, as set out by the DfE's guidance, are defined as:
- Democracy: a culture that is built upon freedom and equality where every individual is aware of their rights and responsibilities
- Individual liberty: protection of your rights and the rights of others that work alongside you.
- The rule of law: the requirement for their to be a system of rules in order to create a happy, safe and secure environment for all to live and work in.
- Respect & Tolerance: an understanding that we don't all share the same beliefs, faiths and values but that we respect those of others whilst not imposing our own.
At TDA we view British Values as encompassing what it means to be a socially moral citizen in a modern and diverse Great Britain. We seek to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding to prepare them to play a full and active part in society and to promote an environment that is free from discrimination, intolerance, prejudice and hate.
In addition to addressing this via our "Values" curriculum, we attempt to embed and promote them across all our curriculum areas and in our everyday life here at TDA. This underpins our core value of respect and ensures that when students leave us they are prepared to live and work in modern Britain as responsible citizens and contribute positively to society.
