Option Subject – GCSE Statistics


        Course Overview

        The age of statistics is upon us, statistics are being used at an increasing rate in science,
        business and politics. In the real world we are constantly being bombarded through the
        media with graphs, data and various statistical statements, just think about all the Covid
        briefings held by the government this year! If you want to learn about the role statistics
        play in all aspects of everyday life and how use and interpret statistical statements, then
        GCSE statistics is for you.

        You will learn:

               -       How to collect, summarise and represent unbiased data
               -       The skills necessary to read, analyse, and interpret data, diagrams and
                       statistical statements accurately
               -       To reasons and discuss results
               -       To make predictions based on statistical results and probability


        This course can guide many students in careers such as..

        Scientist, nurse, doctor, statistician, economist, financial services, pharmaceuticals, many
        careers related to the environment, running a business, manufacturing and politics.

        Statistics will also help with the study of other subjects at GCSE, A-Level and Degree level.
        For example, the following subjects require the use and understanding of statistics:
        biology, psychology, economics, geography, engineering, archaeology, nursing, social
        care…..

        Specification: Edexcel GCSE Statistics.

        Final exam: Two 1.5hr written exams sat in May/June.
