Option Subject – GCSE Art
Course Overview
The course covers 2 components coursework and an exam (set task)
Component 1-Coursework: 60%
Students will complete a coursework portfolio consisting of 2 projects which they produce
during Year 10 and 11. Each piece of coursework is marked by the centre and
moderated by the Exam Board.
Component 2-Controlled Test : 40%
(A 10-hour set task by the Exam Board).
Students will respond to their chosen starting point from an externally set assignment
paper relating to their subject title, evidencing coverage of all four assessment objectives.
Throughout the course for both the coursework and the set task students will work
individually, producing drawings, paintings, taking photographs and experimenting with a
range of media. As well as researching artists, designers and art movements, developing
ideas to final pieces, and presenting their artwork.

The course can lead to AS and A2 in Fine Art, Graphics, Photography, Textiles or to a Btec Art
and Design course. Then onto Art foundation and degree courses. There are 35,000 art and craft
makers in the UK, and as well as making their own work, they contribute to many businesses and
industries, including film, theatre, dance, fashion and product design.
Specification: AQA.
Final exam: Will take place at the end of April in Year 11.
