Option Subject – GCSE French/ GCSE Spanish
Course Overview
Languages GCSE will help broaden your mind and change the way you see the world
around you. People who speak more than one language have improved memory,
problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, enhanced concentration and the ability to
multitask, and better listening skills.
The course is divided into 3 themed areas:
Theme 1: Identity and Culture; Me, my family and friends∙ Technology in everyday life
(social media and mobile technology) ∙Free time activities ∙ Customs and festivals.
Theme 2: Local, national, international and global areas of interest; Hometown,
neighbourhood and region ∙ Charity and voluntary work ∙Healthy and unhealthy living
Environment ∙ Poverty and homelessness ∙ Holidays and travel ∙ Regions of France/ Spain.
Theme 3: Current and future study and employment; Life at school ∙University or work?

Specification: AQA GCSE French/ Spanish.
Final exam: 4 exams of equal weighting sat in May/ June. Exams are Foundation Tier
(grades 1-5) or Higher Tier (grades 4-9).
